What’s Your Impact on the Planet?

So I’m doing research for a client project, scouring the Internet learning about carbon footprinting. I find a wealth of material and realize this has really blossomed since I first heard about it - and now I’m feeling guilty because I need to be doing more as an individual. Anyway, there are a lot of calculators out there that will tell you how your lifestyle is affecting the planet and one in particular stood out called Consumer Consequences, from American Public Media.
It has a game-like interface that walks you through your habits, collecting data from you in order to advise you of your carbon impact on the planet. It lets you pick a fun “character” and the type of housing you live in and then walks you through different categories (like home, energy use, transportation, shopping habits, food) and calculates to show you how many planets we’d need if everyone on earth lived the same lifestyle that you indicate. WHOA! I scored okay until I hit transportation and things went awry. I learned that coffee is the most “traveled” food group on the planet (ouch I just love coffee). Try it out for yourself - interesting and eye-opening. Click here>
