Came across BlogTalkRadio.com today, which I hadn’t ever heard about before. Social radio?

Yep, social radio. According to the site, they are the leading social radio network. There are thousands of talk shows available on the site in all kinds of categories and topics. The concept combines social networking with Internet radio. It’s web-based and allows you to host a live Internet radio show and take callers from the phone. The shows are also made available as a podcast via RSS and iTunes, and audiences can listen online or on an mp3 device. One of the best features is the reminder for a show, which will notify you before the show airs. All it takes is a computer connected to the Internet and a phone. So you and your show are up and running immediately, and at no cost. Pretty amazing!

Occasionally it happens that us old ad people use an old term (like the other day I caught myself asking a media rep about a double truck) or we make a joke that includes a a product from our youth (remember Bestine? Formaline Graphic arts tape? rubber cement pick ups?) or when the power went out like it did here on Monday we joked about working on “marker comps” to keep things moving. Well anyone who relates to any of that will enjoy the Museum of Forgotton Art Supplies by Lou Brooks at a site called Drawger. Visit around the site too, its has some nice art collections.

Oh, and if you happen to have been born after say 1980, the machine above is a stat machine.

TechNewsWorld reported Friday that ICANN has approved new Internet address policies. Reporter Renay San Miguel wrote in his article that ICANN will give anyone willing to pay for it the rights to a branded domain. No more limitations to .com or .net - now brand giants willing to pay a hefty sum can get themselves a custom domain - maybe we’ll see a .apple or a .nike. ICANN also voted for the first time to allow non-Roman characters in web addresses, which allows Chinese companies to register suffixes with mandarin script for example.

I came across Wordle today - and I couldn’t resist trying it out. Wordle is a fun application for generating “word clouds” from the text that you type in. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. There’s even a gallery of other people’s work - and some are rather nice! Most people seem to use text that creates a theme or the words relate to each other in some way, which is what I ended up doing. Here’s a few that I created. It was fun…try it out!
